I been struggling with this machine intial came with thin red vertical lines i changed the graphic 810005 ati still same also now changed the vram whic is gddr5 samsung 4rams still same problem the lines come on external display and on lcd.where can the problem be all voltages are normal. any idea where we can look also what is gmux lfxp2 for is that the culprit.

I got the same situation with A1286 k91f witch is similar to your MBP 17. But:
- Mac do not start in Mac OS X or with Mac OS installer, it stucks on loading process both way. In the very moment of stucking the screen becomes white (before this moment I see red stripes as you do)
- It starts up in windows with red stripes on the screen. As i think the radeon is a problem I would like it to work with Intel HD 3000 which should be fine - this way I will be sured in radeon false. But when I installing Intel chipset drivers or Intel HD drivers on windows to make Intel HD work, all the system goes down. So may be there is something wrong with Intel HD?

P.S.
- ASD say everything is fine - no mistakes found after extended test.
- Apple have a repair program for this machines cause of graphic issues, as i remember, once i got a notebook after apple's fix both chips Intel i7 and radeon were changed.
